The weird tracking involved with day and night aside, Vadrik offers an ability that any Izzet mage will be very glad to have: a way to cheapen instants and sorceries. Vadrik decks want two things: ways to make sure you can flip between day and night so as to grow his power, and big, expensive instants and sorceries that he can cheapen (I suppose the third thing these decks wants is a way to grow his power independent of the day/night mechanic, with cards like Tezzeret’s Gambit). Once your Vadrik is huge, you can fire off huge spells like Jaya’s Immolating Inferno or Comet Storm and hopefully end the game on the spot.
